Familiar shapes take on vibrant hues, trees in yellow and blue, magenta mountains and orange fields. The scene is both familiar and foreign, until one takes a moment for introspection and examines how the paintings make them feel. It is then that they realize that the work spoke to an underlying truth all along, one stripped of the mask of physical reality.
These paintings, which focus on the emotion of a place rather than the reality, are by Marshall Noice, one of the newest artists to join Mark White fine Art. Known for his use of vivid colors and exuberant energy he’s an exciting addition to the Mark White Fine Art stable.

Oils and Pastels
Noice works in two different mediums, depending on his needs at the time: oils and pastels. Each has a unique character and vastly different feels.
Often smaller, Noice’s pastels have a frenetic energy to them. There is a sense that he has captured a transient emotion before it could shift in a vibrant place. The colors are as energetic as the mood, and bring a lighthearted feel.
While Noice’s oils are as colorful as the pastels, the feel is both the same yet different. Colors build, blend and overlap, adding depth and nuance. There is a sense of longevity, that the emotion of the land changes slowly.
Knowing His Subject
Because Noice paints the mood of the land rather than its reality, he often finds that he paints familiar places. He returns time and again and develops an understanding of the locale that goes deeper than the first impressions. This allows him to paint even more character into each piece.
However in recent years he has also challenged himself to paint his first impressions. This freedom allows him to find inspiration in the smallest things, from the scene near his home to lone trees alongside the highway. The result is that he’s even more in tune with the world around him.
